Time Machine By Herbert Wells Essays - Fiction, Literature

Time Machine by Herbert Wells Time travel. A thought that has entranced humankind forever. The shear thought of journeying through the texture of time is both a captivating and elating idea. All through time, many creator's have firmly anticipated the future through their books, and who's to state H.G. Wells wont follow the world renowned strides of these creators with The Time Machine? Is the plan to far gotten? The time traveler in the story didn't think along these lines, all however others didn't concur. Be that as it may, who can foresee what's to come? Possibly we have just been visited by individuals from the future and don't have any acquaintance with it. This book is a magnificent look at the inquiries time travel raises, and I will expound on this incredible novel in the coming sections. The time machine happens in the nineteenth to twentieth century, or the here and now some place on Earth. That is, from the outset. The time traveler as he is refereed to in this book, immediately chose to leave for some other time period. This time period lamentably being in the very far future year of 802,700. Nothing in this time period is equivalent to his, he may also be a stone age man. This timeframe appeared to be extremely captivating, with a culture that has arrived at a condition of perfect world, or so no doubt. He would find that everything isn't great, seeing as his lone connection back to his own timeframe had immediately been cut off. There are just a couple of characters in this novel. The initial one we meet is obviously the fundamental character, the time traveler himself. We likewise meet the individuals he related himself and offers his disclosures with. Two that we catch wind of the longest are Filby, who is a red haired man who is very factious and has an arrival remark for each one made, and the therapist, who is a smooth, not target individual... these two characters nearly differentiate each other character insightful. The fundamental character in the story is a very fascinating one without a doubt. He has characteristics that make for a really various person. From the start, it would appear to you that this man is somewhat insane. A few depicted him along these lines, which is exceptionally anticipated. Time travel in this time span and at in the time period in novel is something tied in straightforwardly with fiction. It didn't and still doesn't have any logical premise in our general public, yet, it is something that might be exceptionally practical sometime in the future. The time traveler saw this was the ideal opportunity for that fiction to be changed into the real world, and henceforth he made his time machine. He got the analysis that went with the job, yet he additionally got some recognition. The primary character was not just a genuine virtuoso for his development, yet he was likewise an ingenious individual. He should have been both keen also, creative to get by later on, a world so unique in relation to his. He was additionally indicted, he never abandoned what he put forth a concentrated effort to. The time explorers reason in the novel was being the principle connect to everything going on, furthermore, to be the focal point of the considerable number of occasions inside the novel. He delivered, tried, furthermore, utilized the time machine and it's way of thinking. He is a static character, as he remains the equivalent all through a large portion of the novel. The main thing that changes is his view of specific things, and his insight into what's to come. The character doesn't identify with anybody, all things considered, as I would see it. He has the qualities of some incredible individuals however, he has those of a pioneer, a researcher, and an officer. The subject of the story as I would see it is don't stress about the future, endure the present. This is applied effectively to reality. Individuals need to live their lives not stressing over the future, and rather considering the present and making the most out of the day. Time travel might be something intriguing, yet until further notice I think in the wake of perusing the story, we should stress over the present.

Legal Relationship Intention Commercial Agreements

Question: Examine about the Legal Relationship Intention for Commercial Agreements. Answer: Presentation It is incomprehensible that an agreement will be authoritative without an aim to make a legitimate superb relationship. The test for deciding the aim of the gatherings has consistently been controlled by the rebuttable assumptions that a goal to make a lawful relationship did or didn't exist between the gatherings. The rebuttable assumption test is a conspicuous custom-based law statute that is applied in deciding goal of the gatherings in social, family and business understandings. Foundation of Intention In seeking after this conversation it is able to start with the foundation or history of the utilization of the rebuttable assumptions in deciding expectation that will direct us to either concur with the conflicts made in the two cases above. In family and social understandings guarantees regardless of whether they were penetrated, were not legitimately enforceable in court as was held in Jones v Padavatton.[1] Moreover, the assumption was additionally stretched out to life partners who can be considered to have been inhabiting the time.[2] However this assumption couldn't reach out to companions who had been judicially isolated or divorced.[3] Where there was a business understanding between people who are esteemed to be connected socially of locally such an assumptions will not exist anymore. The courts at that point were of the sentiment that is such an assumption is stifles then that will open conduits for various suits and besides in Balfour case it was expressed that the substance of custom-based law doesn't manage the sort of understandings that mates ought to go into. In the event that the understanding had extensively surpassed what could be considered as a social or family understanding the rebuttable assumption couldn't be applied as an expectation here is now translated as existing.[4] For the business understanding it was consequently assumed that the gatherings in such an understanding had the essential goal to be lawfully bound. The onus of demonstrating that such an expectation didn't exist in business understandings was without a doubt a tough battle.[5] A method of keeping away from such an aim to be lawfully bound in a business understanding was to embed a respect proviso in the understanding that explicitly expresses that the gatherings don't plan to be legitimately bound.[6] Ermogenous Summary The instance of Ermogenous v Greek Orthodox Community of SA Inc (Ermogenous)[7] redirected structure what is viewed as the conventional methodology of deciding the expectation of the gatherings. The case included Archbishop Ermogenous who was making a case for administration at the Greek customary network. The court of first occurrence was guided by the rebuttable assumptions and the petitioner activity that kept up that there was a legitimate aim fizzled. On advance, the court held that the test ought not be laid on the rebuttable assumptions yet it should be a goal one. They further expressed that the assumption could deceive the court to handily understand that there was no aim by the gatherings due to the idea of work. The court certified that while deciding the goal of features of the case must be respected. Evans Summary In Evans v Secretary, Department of Families, Housing, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs (Evans)[8] the court emphasized the situation in Emogenous case and proceeded to confirm that the rebuttable assumptions had even been smothered. The issue in court for this situation was whether an agreement existed between a grown-up kid and a parent and the use of the rebuttable assumptions was again called to address. Perceptions (State, with reasons, regardless of whether you concur or differ with the affirmation made by the creator that the rebuttable assumptions have in reality been doused I have given such a significant number of reason s underneath .) From the above it is discernable that the courts shared an all around characterized system established practically speaking law of deciding an aim of the gatherings, in any case, the Emogenous case presents a sweeping way to deal with deciding the goal of the gatherings which is such that the courts ought to consider all parts of the case before it can reach to an educated resolution. The point of reference in Emogenous and Evans case excited an unselfish legitimate discontent where a few pundits contended that greater part of social and family understandings regularly, are not planned to be enforceable in a court or authoritative and along these lines by dousing the assumption rule, an unsuccessful labor of equity will happen for one gathering in light of the fact that the other is just authorizing the understanding for lawful expedience.[9] Thus it very well may be yielded that the target test won't give a fair equity to the gatherings. In applying the Balfour case above, it tends to be battled likewise that, without such assumptions the offended party in any such case will consistently be confronted with a difficult obligation of demonstrating that an aim to be legitimately bound exists. It has likewise been agued that the courts ought to maintain the assumptions that have been set by precedent-based law yet should enhance the customary law with other impartial standard and not so much stifle the precedent-based law assumption rule.[10] The court ought to be guided by the wording of the understanding and the direct of the gatherings on the off chance that they could lead a sensible individual into being convinced on an equalization of likelihood that the gatherings proposed to be legitimately bound as was held in Smith v Hughes.[11] This test I will be compelling and will abstain from leaving one gathering on the losing side of the balances of equity and thusly fair equity will host been rendered to the gatherings. It is of specific noteworthiness to take note of that the assumptions have in a few examples been seen not as supportive in deciding the goal of the gatherings. It has been held that the test that ought to be applied is the target test alone. The essential appointed authority in Tadrous v Tadrous[12] If it is appeared on an equalization of likelihood that the wording of the understanding and the direct of the gatherings can lead a sensible individual to accept that the is an agreement then such an expectation to make lawful relationship existed in any case, on the off chance that the equivalent isn't appeared, at that point the goal didn't exist and this target test alone will do the trick to demonstrate a goal. In Gray v Gray[13] Young CJ and Bryson JJA found an advance understanding between a mother and child to be legitimately official. They would not make a difference the assumptions battling that a legitimate evaluation ought to be made on each exceptional situation and the setting in which the gatherings managing one another, regardless of whether by applying the prior the court will display a goal to be lawfully bound. A progressively enticing position was reached in Ashton v Pratt[14] where the court held that one ought to have into thought the topic of the understanding, the individual relationship of the gatherings that existed when they were going into the understanding and all other encompassing conditions, to decide the expectation of the gatherings. The court for this situation applied the Emogenous case in totality and found the assumptions to have no capacity at all in deciding the expectation. An intriguing dispute appear to be that where a parent and kid concur that the youngster surrender his life and profession in order to deal with privately-owned company or to deal with an old matured parent and a prize is guaranteed tin that sense, it ought to be surmised that from the understanding, an aim to be legitimately bound was living in the wording of such an understanding and the direct of the parties.[15] It is important that if the assumption test is applied for this situation the kid will be at an overwhelming danger of encountering bad form. It very well may be expressed that the possible test isn't a comprehensive test. It is one that is abstract and takes a gander at the case introduced from the presumptive worth and just gives a decision dependent on a shallow appearance of the conditions of the case.[16] The not out of the question and only way to follow which is additionally the most secure way, as has been contended, is through a target assessment of the real conditions and setting of the gatherings and later from such an assessment one can reason whether there was a goal to be lawfully bound or whether the understanding was only a true understanding which reflected love and trust between the gatherings however was legitimately inadequate. [17] Over or more all, since the assumptions have been doused and have lost significance in greater part of the choices in Australia, it is certain in these choices that the target test won't be applied where in a social or household understanding the gatherings incorporate a proviso expressing explicitly their goal to be lawfully bound. The impact of any such provision is that the courts might be guided by the proviso and along these lines, it will surmise that the gatherings planned to be lawfully bound and the understanding ought to be enforce able. We should take recognizance of the way that any questionable word in such a statement will make the condition incapable and in this way gatherings won't have the option to get away from the expectation to be legitimately bound. It has been proposed that the unavoidable significance of the target test ought to be supported by the respectability of the gatherings and to guarantee that the test isn't exposed to mishandle. Further, it hosts been contended that exposing the gatherings to a target test to decide the goal parties keeps the gatherings from reneging on their commitments in the understanding and is additionally a motivation to guarantee that the gatherings don't distort or confuse the aims of one another towards the agreement.[18] A contention against the Objective test applied in the ongoing changes in the conversation of aim in contract law is that the choice to design the statute of goal to be legitimately bound in contract law utilizing the target speculation has the impact of pulling back the expectation of a sensible man inside the conditions and setting of the case however not what was quite the psyche of the parties.[19]

Crime and punishment Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words

Wrongdoing and discipline - Essay Example The similitudes between the occasions of the Genesis and the Gilgamesh flood story interest the manner of thinking of pundits to see the levelheadedness or mindlessness behind the frequencies of wrongdoing and discipline in the book. The age of Gilgamesh spins around the 2000 B.C. in any case, the Genesis flood occurred in 400 BC that shows the flood happened in various time (Saunders, 1964). Scriptural creators gave their adaptation of the flood to alter the narratives for crowds of contemporary society reverberating with the way of life code and social conviction of the individuals. The legendary components oblige the first story. In spite of the fact that there are obvious contrasts between the plots of stories yet the leitmotif stays same in the two stories. The staggering nearness of Judeo-Christian populace limits the target assessment of scriptural stories and legends of different societies as inbuilt surface of mind forestalls the correct translation of the messages associate d with the accounts (Robinson, 2007). The normal topic in the two stories shares the encounters of human instinct to influence strings of life in the general public. How society ought to oversees the personal satisfaction and where human units fit into the creation requires the comprehension and interrelationship between different components. The social effect in the induction of end from these two stories shows implication of open encounters and assessment of society in the advancement of character. Despite the fact that similitudes of scene in the accounts of Gilgamesh with scriptural stories stay obvious however unfurling stories brings the mark of time. The disorder of human culture is the trigger purpose of the God's anger in the accounts of Genesis and Gilgamesh. The content structure Gilgamesh asserts the statement of God, The mayhem of humankind is painful and rest is not, at this point conceivable by reasons of the Babel (Gilgamesh 12).The nonattendance of rationale in God's outrage in the story mirrors the human impression of the Author in not giving the intensity of protecting commotion. Advancement of acoustic science in the period of Gilgamesh appears to be restricted as this was not the situation of God's rage in the Babylonian story. The reasonability behind fierceness in Genesis is worthy for eradication of human species as man's detestable expectations were annihilating congruity. The content says, It atoned the Lord that he had made man on the earth, and it lamented him at his heart (Genesis. 6:6). The God's anguish is obvious in the demeanor, I will demolish man whom I have made from the substance of the earth. . . (B eginning. 6:7). The conversation in the present section gives the example of specialists' job in applying control instrument to continue the social order. God as power manages the requirement of law to secure the decency in the individuals for forestalling wrongdoings. The cruel discipline in the story doesn't legitimize the guideline estimation of GOD as the seriousness level of wrongdoing ought to be considered. Reorganization practice for wrongdoing is better choice in contrast with obliteration of guilty party. The hole in arrangement of wrongdoing and discipline over the distinctive period improves understanding evolvement of human culture if ideological convictions of present day

A Look into Calvin Klein’s Advertisements Essays - 525 Words

A Look into Calvin Klein’s Advertisements As a seductive young man looks into a camera a raspy voice, off camera, whispers, â€Å"You got a real nice look. How old are you? Are you strong? You think you could rip that shirt off? That’s a real nice body. You work out? I can tell.† No, it’s not straight out of a steamy romance novel, though it could be. This is just one example of how provocative Calvin Klein’s advertisements have been. Although the ads boosted sales for the Calvin Klein empire, it angered many parents, religious groups, and even the media over its message, its image, and its legality. There is no doubt the ads are in bad taste, but in advertising today, sex sells. Advertising is all based on the way a†¦show more content†¦And that their advertising explodes on the media scene.† Calvin Klein eventually dropped the $6 million dollar campaign after the advertisements were accused of violating child pornography laws. On September 8 the Justice Department began looking into claims that the ads used young models posed in a provocative manner. A Calvin Klein spokeswoman stated that only one of the models used in their ads was under the age of 18. The fifteen-year-old girl that was in his ads was Bijou Phillips, whose mother was aware of the ad and was proud of her daughter. If the parents of the teen models allowed their children to pose for the advertisements, who are we to blame the CK company for using them. Who are we to look down on Calvin Klein’s ads when you can watch any show on prime time TV and see much worse than what the ads portrayed? Who are we to suggest that the ads are suggestive when all we know is that, in advertising, sex sells and sells big? Isn’t Calvin Klein just giving the public what it wants? Calvin Klein has publicly stated that the â€Å"misunderstood† ads had been intended to â€Å"convey the spirit, independence, and inner worth of today’s young people.† Personally, I do not really buy that argument. Is he saying that the teenagers today are always thinking about â€Å"it,† doing â€Å"it,† or discussing â€Å"it.† But, at the same time, I don’t think the public should automatically label him or his company as â€Å"perverts† for using sex to sellShow MoreRelatedThe Advertisements For Gucci s Perfume And Calvin Klein1526 Words   |  7 Pagesattractiveness. The Great Depression Persuasive Essay Example For Students

The Great Depression Persuasive Essay Carmack 2The Great DepressionThe Great Depression is known as a time of economic disaster, and for its impact on the social structure of families. As times got harder, the family way of life changed. Families that were well off did not suffer as much as those that were already struggling. When men lost their jobs they also lost the ability to support their families. Children were forced to leave home and find work without adequate schooling. The Great Depression affected people both physically and psychologically. It was an era of unemployment, family struggles, and the way they survived. The Great Depression was an era of unemployment. One of the main causes of unemployment was the combination of the greatly unequal distribution of wealth throughout the twenties. The unequal distribution of wealth had gone on forever. Money was distributed disparately between the rich and the middle class, between the United States and Europe, and even between industries and agriculture. The unequal distribution of wealth had created an unstable economy. Companies were losing money because of this unstable economy so there for they had to make some changes. The first thing that had to be done was to save money and they did this by cut the pay role. Employees of many years were fired or took massive pay cuts. The employers only kept a select few workers that they had to have. Carmack 3If one did not make the employers expectation, they were fired. (Proudberg 9-16)With few job openings and so many people looking for them, job security was a big threat. Because of this threat, employees started to form labor unions. Thursday, October 24, 1929 was a very important date of the Great Depression. This date is commonly known as Black Thursday or some time called Black Monday This is the day that the stock market crashed. On Thursday, Oct 24, 1929, the bottom began to fall out. Prices dropped precipitouslyBy the end of the day the market had lost four billion dollarsBy the end of the year the stock values had dropped by fifteen billion dollars. (Underwood)Carmack 4The crash affected everyone; rich, pore, middle class, and yes even banks. Everyone had money in the stock market and everyone lost his or her money. The unstable economy aided the crash in some ways. Because if the business had maybe put the money that they had invested in the Stock market to some good use like paying the workers a little raise or something. This Would have made it possible for the middleman to maybe save some money and not have to try his luck at the stock market. Some of the families had lost all there savings to the crash and the ones that didnt lose there money in the stock market crash could not get it from the bank if they wanted because the bank had lost there money to the stock market. .ufdc413a4473ea19c093cf1ff5270d692 , .ufdc413a4473ea19c093cf1ff5270d692 .postImageUrl , .ufdc413a4473ea19c093cf1ff5270d692 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .ufdc413a4473ea19c093cf1ff5270d692 , .ufdc413a4473ea19c093cf1ff5270d692:hover , .ufdc413a4473ea19c093cf1ff5270d692:visited , .ufdc413a4473ea19c093cf1ff5270d692:active { border:0!important; } .ufdc413a4473ea19c093cf1ff5270d692 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .ufdc413a4473ea19c093cf1ff5270d692 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .ufdc413a4473ea19c093cf1ff5270d692:active , .ufdc413a4473ea19c093cf1ff5270d692:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .ufdc413a4473ea19c093cf1ff5270d692 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .ufdc413a4473ea19c093cf1ff5270d692 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .ufdc413a4473ea19c093cf1ff5270d692 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .ufdc413a4473ea19c093cf1ff5270d692 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .ufdc413a4473ea19c093cf1ff5270d692:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .ufdc413a4473ea19c093cf1ff5270d692 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .ufdc413a4473ea19c093cf1ff5270d692 .ufdc413a4473ea19c093cf1ff5270d692-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .ufdc413a4473ea19c093cf1ff5270d692:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: A role of the art in the expression of inner thoughts and beauty EssayFamilies coped with unemployment in different ways. Some families had a little money saved and would use it to pay the house note. In the meantime, they would try to find odd jobs in order to pay the next bill. The reason why Im appealing to youIve got a wife, four children and a mother, too. And they are depending on me for financially(Proudberg 25-28)They would get food from soup lines to save any money they could. Families that kept their jobs, took massive pay cuts; therefore struggling, but still managing to put little food on the table and a roof over their heads. They carry lessons and warningsThey do what they mustThey are beyond argument. (Sandburg 562)Carmack 5A few families were left in terrible situations. (Proudbeg 1-8)Some families made due with their loss of everything, while others freaked out over their losses. Fathers of some families were so devastated over the loss of all their possessions; they took their own life so that they would not have to deal with the agony of being broke. Friends, many days I feel I can dieI feel like committing suicideSome kindhearted employers, my case in up to you,Give me something to do. (Proudbeg 29 32)Carmack 6Families did all kinds of things to handle the problems of the Great Depression. Some families split up and went their own ways to try to find jobs, or whatever work they could. In some cases the kids were split up from their parents. What shall he tell that son?Life is hard; be steel; be a rock. And this might stand him for the stormsAnd guide him amid sudden betrayalsAnd tighten him for slack moments,(Sandburg 448)In fact most families did not split up; they stayed right where they were and fought through the hard times. Some children joined the National Youth Administration. This ensured them of some sort of work if there was any work. I was about fourteen when I joined the NYA. I used to get paid $12.50 every two weeks. Making footlockers. I gave half to my mother. This was the first time I could buy some clothes. (Hawes 104)Families tried to help each other in their times of need. They would open their houses to friends and relatives in need. This would help them to pay the rent and also keep them from living in a Hoover Ville. Which was a small town environment with makeshift homes all made of cardboard and other materials they could find. Carmack 7The Great Depression was a real eye opener for both the people of yesterday and the people of today. During it they had dealt with unemployment and families had to learn to live on hardly anything. They learned the true meaning of money. Today it would be difficult for us to imagine not having food or hot water. People get mad today if the cable television goes out or if the Internet is down for a few hours. The Great Depression was truly a tragedy but there is nothing we can do about it now. People then learned a good bit from it. They learned; how to group together, how to save money, and just what a dollar was worth. Let the nickels and explain. Hydrology hw 9 - Assignment Example High precipitation results into high surface runoffs which instantaneously increase the streams volume causing floods downstream, the data is generated using long- range radar systems and used to give Early warning systems on floods. Besides, there is also data on climate change and air quality over time and scale in the entire United States which determines the weather patterns. Describe what's available meteorological/hydrological information you have observed from the website at USGS’ Surface Water Information Pages: http://water.usgs.gov/osw/ The site provides data on surface water systems including the river systems, lakes, dams and other related surface water storage systems. This data (R.G. Wetzel & G.E. Likens) II used in analyzing the various surface characteristics such as surface water flows, surface water storages, and its effects on the human and natural environments. There are also data on the threatened and discontinued stream gages due to reasons. There is also information on stream flow measurements using various methods. This is very important in relaying accurate observations and prediction on stream characteristics such as changes in stream volumes, stream discharge, stream composition and velocity. Besides, there is information on climate change and changes in the global atmospheric systems used in making accurate prediction of the global water patterns, both atmospheric water systems, underground water systems as well as the surface water systems. Describe what you learned about both subjects on â€Å"Areal Precipitation Estimation† and â€Å"Hydrologic Loses: Initial Loss and Hydrologic Abstraction† The lesson on areal precipitation estimation is very important on a practical basis as it is very important in determining the surface water bud get. This can for the base line in relating water uses to water availability in different parts of the world. An estimate of the balance between the losses and inlets is a derivat ion for the surface water budget. What are bare, wet HSG’s minimum infiltration rates and other four infiltration estimate methods introduced in the class? Bare, wet HSG infiltration is one of the methods used in estimating infiltration rates referring to the mode of infiltration which takes place after the bare ground overland soil after thorough wetting. HSG is not determined by any other factor such as the effects of vegetation, land use types, ground conditions, slope angle, type of bedrocks among others. HSG however, varies from soil to soil depending on the soil characteristics in each case i.e. highest in loose sandy soils and lowest in clays. Infiltration estimation methods discussed in this class include the use of the Empirical Method: SCS (NRCS) Runoff Curve Number (CN). The curve number CN, is a function of five major variables including: function of land use, cover, soil classification, hydrologic conditions and antecedent runoff conditions. The equation is as sh own; where Q is runoff, P is rainfall, a is initial abstraction, S is potential maximum retention after run off begins, and CN is the curve number, percent of runoff. Holtan Equation, also known as Horton’s infiltration capacity estimation, is another method of estimating infiltration rates. The equation is; f = GI A Sab + fc Where â€Å"

ACC Group - Case Study Example For Claire's Antiques, this order is very important because without they would not be profitable and would have to layoff many workers. The company now has to consider its alternatives, the main assumption that we have during this consideration is that Claire's Antiques cannot have a budget based on speculations of money that is not there yet.If a rebid is to take place, it could be possible for the competitors to lower their price, thus Claire's Antiques should clearly refuse the rebid. In this the consumer would have more time to think the decision through and compare the two companies. One thing that Claire's Antiques can do is to offer more services, such as after sales service. This would make their offer more interesting even though the price is higher. Claire's Antiques should find out what type of service is important to the customer and include them in their sales process. This would help validate the higher price being charged by them. A discount can be offered if the custome r is willing to pay cash or make the payment upfront, that is as soon as the goods are received or within a week of delivery.Every company has a weak point; Claire's Antiques should find out about the weak point of their competitors and use this to their advantage. There are many things that you need to consider before actually making the bid and once you have done so, you need to sit back and see how the competitors and the customer reacts.

Balance Sheets for the four quarters Essay Example for Free

Balance Sheets for the four quarters Essay To evaluate how I utilized both budgets and pro-formas to ensure the adequacy of funds for providing production capacity that was needed to achieve the businesses goals. I want to first start with the definition of both pro-forma and budget; A budget is a basic idea that covers more than a few areas, all in all its a financial plan that is made to control costs for operations and results. It can be expressed in a multitude of numerical terms, it also can cover a certain period of time, short, intermediate and long term goals. A pro-forma is also a financial statement but it is prepared based upon assumptions of specific events and transactions that will hopefully occur in the Future, so basically a projected estimate using historical data to form a hypothesis of A financial outcome. The importance of both the pro-forma and budget were huge. Knowing going into the simulation how much seed money was going to be issued and how much additional money was coming in future investments, gave me an idea of how aggressive or conservative I could be. I was able to to set with an initial idea of how much I could spend for each factor needed moving forward. I was able to understand how much to market, how much to hire and how much I could afford for each of these tasks, as well as how much was coming into pay for future marketing and hires. Without advertising there are no customers, without a good sales and service staff there are no sales, or an ability to take care of the customer. In the opening quarter of the company I had a 2 million dollar start-up fund. My upfront expenses were approximately $530,000. I also chose to invest in a 3 month CD about $880,000, I made sure in my first endeavor to keep money available and not to over indulge. I took similar approaches going into each additional quarter; thereafter I wouldreview what was spent and estimate what was coming in and at that point I would hire more employees, adjust and raise benefits and increase marketing. My sales force and marketing expenses doubled from quarter two to quarter three and rose another 49 percent from quarter three to quarter four. These two factors in my opinion are the biggest of a profitable company, as sales and marketing grow and increase your company will thrive. At the end of each quarter I would review the results in these areas and make assessments on how much additional advertising I needed based upon sales numbers of the individual computers Mercedes and the Traveler. Based upon production and the competition I would review to see if I was going to increase the sales force and the compensation plan. The overall outcome of both areas had my company in NWL as the top employers at 83 out of a maximum 84 Score; also in regards to marketing effectiveness in NWL my company had a 92 out of a 97 maximum Score thats how I used the budget and pro-forma to help NWL achieve its goals. B.2. To evaluate how I employed Just In Time or JIT and Lean Operations to improve operating efficiency in my manufacturing facility, again as part of moving forward I want to define these two strategies before I explain how I use them. A) Just In Time or JIT is a production strategies to improve a business return on investment ROI by reducing in-process inventory as well as the associated carrying cost. This is done by only receiving goods as they are needed in the overall process, this helps cut overall inventory costs. B) Lean Operations simply supplies a customer with exactly what the customer needs when and only when the customer wants it without waste with this constant improvement, the emphasis and focus is on understanding the customer. Both JIT and Lean Operations can help with the overall increase of return on investment or ROI. In regards to how my simulation for NWL worked with these strategies, I would say in NWL ran overly Lean to a fault. I ran my operation capacity at 65 and my fixed capacity at 75 which was the second lowest of my competitors on both accounts. This was a huge negative for my company since it cost me over 2100 in lost sales. This would have increased my sales by approximately 33 percent which would have lowered the overall production costs and increase profits. I finished number 2 in sales with thehighest average price of computer. With a 33 percent increase in sales had I run a better production operation I would have had a lager profitability for a already profitable simulation. I did not key into the right places when I reviewed the early production numbers which cost me when it came to changing Operating and Fixed Capacities. I was overly cautious and my end result was indicative of this and caused big loses for NWL. B.3. Work Cells vs Traditional Straight Line Production. A Work Cell is defined to be a arrangement of machines and personnel that focuses on making a single product or family related products. Traditional Straight Line Production Is the standard assembly line style of manufacturing. Work may start in one department until that phase is complete. Then the product moves onto the next department for the next phase and the next and so on. The major difference between the two is efficiency and cost differentials. In a work cell method there are a multitude of benefits, from a reduction in work area needed, speed of production completion and number of associates needed just to name a few. All of which are in line with the thought process of JIT and Lean Operations which in turn increases ROI (return on investment). Five distinct advantages in the work cell vs the assembly line (1)Tasks are grouped, therefore inspections can be immediate. (2)Fewer workers are needed because of cross training. (3)The workers can access more of the work area. (4)Work areas are more efficiently balanced. (5)Enhanced communication based upon the shape of the work cell. These advantages can help lead to fewer employees reaching higher production numbers. Which in the simulation could have led to smaller start-up companies making more cost efficient production goals happen along with how well a micro computer company could make a work cell arrangement payoff positively. B.4. Evaluation of decisions involving inventory management in the Marketplace Simulation Inventory is defined as raw materials, work-in-progress goods and completely finished goods that are considered to be the portion of the businesses assets that are ready or will be ready for sale. Inventory represents one of the most important assets that most companies possess, because the turnover of inventory represents one of the primary sources of revenue generation and subsequent earnings for the company. In the marketplace simulation NWL was not very successful at inventory management in the attempt to run Just-in-Time (JIT) and Lean Operations, I ended up with sold out product and a enormous loss in sales. The lost sales totaled 50 percent of the total sales, which meant there could have been an additional 33 percent positive sales increase if the inventory was managed properly. These were losses of 1000 Travelers units and 1103 Mercedes units, those totals losses of $3,312,730 in gross profit. That was based upon the final sales and not taking into account any production savings by the increased sales volume. That could have increased gross profit by a minimum of 47 percent, if I had it to do over again paying more attention to the inventories would have been a possible windfall. B.5. A continuous improvement program that could have been used to improve and achieve quality assurance goals could have been either Employee Empowerment or Bench-marking. Employee Empowerment involves employees in every step of the production process. Employees are on the front lines and know what is going on in every aspect and on all fronts. If employees find problems they can fix them or help fix them. Whom better in handling an issue then the ones most familiar with the process, if a shortcoming is found an experienced a periodic quality circle can address it. Its been proven that most quality issues are either material or the process, its not usually the employees performance. If a Bench-marking program were to be implemented, the first step would be to established what the benchmark would be. Examples of which are; Percentage of Defects, Cost per unit processing time, Lost sales due to Out-of-Stocks and Customer Satisfaction Rates. If these type of factors were used in my situation, I would have used either Lost sales due to Out-of-Stocks or Customer Satisfaction Rates. mainly because I would have found out possibly a better way of keeping product in stock which could have reduced lost sales as well as a negative customer satisfaction due to no product. The benchmark team can find out what and how benchmark partners were doing to achieve their sales goals by tracking and keeping product stock, whereas to assure customer satisfaction. Then we could analyze the data from the partners and take the appropriate steps to move beyond and keep the process continually improving. C. Personal Narrative- Helping Others Essay -- Personal Narrative Writing

Personal Narrative- Helping Others Declining standards of living and continuing exportation of our jobs have resulted in rising stress levels for all Americans. This results in negative effects on our well being – mentally, physically and emotionally. Some people seek to reduce stress levels by using alcohol and drugs. Some overwork themselves, resulting in mental breakdowns. The pharmaceutical giants pocket billions of dollars a year from sales of tranquillisers, anti-depressants, barbiturates, amphetamines, and other psychoactive medications. We know we must learn to control stress in safer, saner, and healthier ways. So we read about Yoga or Aromatherapy, or maybe Feng Shui. We think about doing stress-management courses. We try to get more exercise and fresh air. We check for preservatives and other additives in our foods, and stock up on multi-vitamins. All useful and worthwhile ideas. But one stress-buster that we don’t hear much about is helping others. A loving or supportive act, unsolicited and unconditional, can brighten another’s life and return to us as contentment and a sense of well being. When we involve ourselves in helping someone else, we overcome the self-centred nature of our own anxieties. Living in huge centres of population, as so many of us do, often means that we lack the interaction and co-operation with neighbours which would have been so much a part of my grandparents’ lives. It’s understandable, I suppose, that constantly feeling our space invaded, we go out of our way to preserve some sort of privacy -- and end up cutting ourselves off from people who live only yards away from us. On the other hand, for those of us who have access to it, the Internet has brought a whole n... ...y own heart is its campaigning on behalf of the â€Å"unknowns† – those prisoners who are tortured or at risk of death in obscure circumstances, and whose names rarely reach the international media. You can read about some of these desperate people at www.stoptorture.org. The theologian Reinhold Niebuhr coined the ultimate expression of empowerment: (God) grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference. By joining in Amnesty’s work, we can change things. By each sending an Amnesty 'Stop Torture' postcard to five friends, together we have the potential to add thousands to the list membership and constantly increase their influence. Can you imagine how many lives could be changed, or even saved, if all of us showed someone imprisoned and forgotten that we really do care?

Sociology & Suicide

Introduction to Sociology Performance Assessment Task #1: Sociology & Suicide Amy M. Ehlert Northcentral Technical College Abstract In this paper, I introduce Emile Durkheim's ideas of suicide and the four types. I also discuss the sociological perspectives of the variations in suicide rates that Durkheim's theory is able to explain. Finally, in conclusion, I offer my own personal views on the topic of suicide and propose ways that society could prevent suicide. Emile Durkheim was a French sociologist who published one of many books, entitled, â€Å"Suicide†. In it, he showed the different suicide rates between Protestant and Catholic people. This book was published in 1897, so, it reflects his findings at that point in time. Some of the theories that Durkheim established about suicide being at a higher rate include the following: * Men than women * Single than married * Childless than with children * Protestants than Catholics/Jews * Soldiers than civilians * Times of peace than in times of war * Scandinavian countries * Higher education level The four subtypes of suicide that Durkheim recognized were: egoistic, altruistic, anomic, and fatalistic. Egoistic suicide resulted from a feeling of not belonging or having no sense of meaning. Altruistic was being overwhelmed by a society's beliefs and they feel less important. Anomic was from a person's basic lack of not knowing where they fit in. Finally, fatalistic suicide, which is the rarest, is when a person's future or what they are passionate about are oppressed by harsh discipline. The longitudinal variation in Durkheim's theory is pretty much constant in that during each decade, the rates stay about the same. They range from a low of 10. 6/100,000 in 1960 to a high of 12. 4/100,000 in 1990. The average rate remains around 11. 39/100,000. No matter the difference in integration, social ties or freedom, the suicide rates remain about the same. Suicide rates are higher among college students because they tend to have more stress in their lives or more things to worry about. They have all new things to worry about and do not have the closeness of their parents to help them as they did before. Some occupations can increase suicide rates and they include dentists, artists, teachers, etc. The type of work the person does and if they are depended on by others for their work can push these people to suicide. Single people tend to have higher suicide rates than married. When you are married, you are part of a functioning unit and dependent upon each other. Adding children into the mix does and can add stress but also makes one happier, in my opinion. Single people are more isolated and less likely to have such close bonds. As for those with advancing age, they just seem to have given up. They think they have lived their lives and what more can they do? The late Dr. Kevorkian tended a lot of assisted suicides requested mostly by elderly people. The median age of Dr. Kevorkian's patients was 74. That really shows how the elderly just seem to want to give up and pass on. Among the black and white youth population, Durkheim showed it was more likely for white youngsters, especially those who were wealthy, to take their own lives. This seemed to be due to even though these white youths had more economic advantage, they were often socially isolated. However, black youth suicide is on the rise in our country. I read that this is due to the breakdown of family and easier access to alcohol and drugs. However, the biggest factor is the increase of the black middle class, which puts more stress on these kids from their new social surroundings. In conclusion, I believe a lot of suicides generally stem from a cry for help. In my past, I have had these types of thoughts and am currently on an anti-depressant. There should be more literature available, especially for our youth, so they can be thoroughly educated on suicide. From my own personal experience, most attempted suicides are a cry for help. These people want help but not in a condescending way. They don't want to be made fun of or made to feel like crap for their feelings. They just want to be understood. At least that is how I always felt. I believe there should be more youth groups or places youngsters can go and get involved in a healthy manner. Even for those who feel isolated by the normal groups in schools like athletics, choir, etc. There should be a community center specializing in groups of different interests; that are not offered in a typical educational environment. So, overall, I propose more education on suicide, a better understanding of those who are suicidal or depressed, and a place for the community to help them, not just our youth but all of our society. Christianity Judaism and Islam in todays society - Free Essay Example

Sample details Pages: 3 Words: 819 Downloads: 7 Date added: 2019/07/31 Category Religion Essay Level High school Tags: Judaism Essay Did you like this example? In todays society, there are a lot of contentious acts that have been caused because of the different beliefs that other people have in their religions. The problem with that, is the United States is a free country, yet we still will call people out for being in a different religion than the majority practices. Although there are many problems with people believing differently than what a great portion does, there are three main religions and they have many similarities and differences; Islam, Judaism, and Christianity, but there is a lot of information on just those three religions themselves. Don’t waste time! Our writers will create an original "Christianity Judaism and Islam in todays society" essay for you Create order Christianity is 31.2% of the populations, although the religions of Islam, and Judaism do not take up as much of the population, it is predicted that by 2050 that these two religions will surpass Christianity by far. Christianity is a very common religion in the United States of America, and their religion and teachings are based on the teachings of the Jesus of Nazareth. After people die, christians believe that they go to heaven if people do believe in him and trust him they go to heaven, but if the people do not, they go to hell. Each religion has a different text or scripture that they read from, and for Christians its the bible. Between the holy scripture that the Christians use, there are many different holy places. An example of a few are: Jerusalem, Bethlehem, Nazareth, Lourdes (a popular place of pilgrimage), Rome, and Canterbury. Christianity is a very complicated religion, but they can have very simple beliefs. Many of the people in this religion do very helpful things for their communities. In the religion of Judaism, there are only Jewish people because in order to be in this religion people have to be born into to the religion or have a family member that was Jewish. The religious figure for the Jewish people is HaShem, he is called by this name, although his name was formerly known as Tetragrammaton. There is a vast amount of sacred texts in this religion, but one of the larger texts is the Hebrew Bible, and also the Torah. In the Jewish religion, they believe that nothing really happens after death. If you ask a Jewish person what happens after death, they may say one of the three things: dont care, dont know, or two men three afterlives. The last phrase means one single person could have three different views on the afterlife because there is no definitive answer to what happens to a person after the die. Although the information of a Jewish afterlife is just belief, there is a sacred place in the city of Jerusalem. The last religion is Islam, and one fact about this particular religion is, it is one of the three religions that have a lot in common, from their beliefs to the way they practice them. The religious figure in Islam is the same god as Judaism, HaShem. There are a lot of sacred texts, and one of the main sacred texts is the Quran, but these religions also have a sacred building called Mosque, which has the Quran located inside. Islam and Death states, Muslims believe that on a day decided by Allah, and known only to Allah, life on earth will come to an end and she will destroy everything. Islam and Death also states, On this day all the people who have ever lived will be raised from the dead and will face judgement by Allah. Muslims believe that they will remain in their graves until this day. This day is called by several names; and one of them is called, the last hour. There are many similarities and differences in the religions, of Islam, Judaism, and Christianity. One of the major similarities is, the religions, all come from Abraham and his sons Ishmael, and Isaac. These religions also share the old testament, a belief in God, and believe in the afterlife. The biggest difference in the three religions is that most Christians believe that Jesus was divine, and the son of God. Islam reveres Jesus as a prophet only, and this religion does not think that he was in any way holy. Judaism also does not think Jesus is the Son of God. Within the religions Islam, Christianity, and Judaism, there are many similarities and differences, but those are the main ones. In conclusion, there is a plethora of information on Judaism, Christianity, and Islam, but there are also a number of facts and information on the similarities and differences. People around the world practice many different things, and there are a vast amount of religions, but only 4,200 religions remain. In the religion Judaism(Jewish people), there is no definitive answer, for how many people practice Judaism, because the number is always changing. One more thing, if a person references a Jewish person as a Jew, it is likely they will get offended.
